Running While Corporate: Success Begets Success! Take That Confidence and Run with It (Pun Intended!)

So there I was, April 1st at 7:45 a.m., preparing for a brand-new day, a new month and a new quarter.  We needed to come out of the gate with a great month because our goal was the highest that it had ever been.  Our pipeline was strong, but I was going to ask for more this month from my team of sales and recruiting professionals. Running While Corporate: Prepare, Envision, Execute!

Two weeks ago, I received a lead that a Fortune 500 company with an operation in Denver was using a lot of the type of business services that my company offers.  I went on LinkedIn and found the names of a few of their executives that I thought might be interested in our services.  One of the leaders that I reached out to has a robust LinkedIn profile and has written articles on a variety of topics.  Before I sent the email introducing myself, I read a couple of his articles.  Then, in my initial reach-out, I lightly referenced it with something humorous.  The result was nothing short of amazing: his assistant didn’t respond to my email, she just put a meeting on my calendar to talk to the leader.  Success! Now in its eighth-year, C-Ski Day continues to be a success, and EdgeLink is proud to have sponsored the event, along with other Colorado technology companies, for eight years and counting. Running While Corporate: Prioritize! Do you do it?

As a general rule, high-performing people have very busy lives: kids’ sports practices, athletic endeavors and work priorities.  It can, and does, seem overwhelming.  I was talking to my wife the other day about how we were both feeling overwhelmed by running 6 days per week, working 45-50 hours, and being present and engaged for family time.  One of the solutions that we came up with was doing less (Crazy!). The key was doing less but doing less better. Continue reading

Running While Corporate: When One Door Closes, Another Opens

In November of 2018, Corinne and I were scheduled to run The North Face Endurance Challenge in San Francisco. It’s an elite level race with very heavy competition in every event. I signed up for the half marathon and Corinne signed up for the marathon. While we would have loved to run the same event, the thought of our 4 and 7-year olds who were with us, touring around San Francisco on their own made us concerned that they were the perfect age for one of the new “youth start-up incubators” to pick them up so one of us had to hang out with them while the other raced.
