In recent years, there has been a noticeable struggle to fill direct hire IT positions. As the market experiences a polar shift, the demand for qualified IT professionals has increased beyond the talent supply. Fierce competition has arisen from that talent scarcity and has split most employers into one of two groups: those who move fast but overlook cultural fit and those who linger on culture without filling positions.
The problem is that both tactics are counterproductive. Filling job openings with incompatible employees leads to high conflict and employee turnover. Waiting for almost mythic, idealized candidates leads to a large loss in productivity and revenue. Yet there are ways to quickly identify a direct hire’s cultural fit without wasting time. Best of all, most of it can be done during the interview. Continue reading
Is it that time of year already? Once again, we at EdgeLink are excited to announce the results for our most recent ELI customer and candidate survey! On a semi-annual basis, Inavero administers the EdgeLink Loyalty Index (ELI) which measures our Net Promoter Score and customer service performance directly from the feedback of our everyday customers and candidates.
Reflecting on our performance allows us to analyze existing circumstances and make changes to improve service to both our candidates and clients. That level of commitment is one of the contributing factors to EdgeLink being awarded the 2014 Inavero Best of Staffing in Talent and Client Satisfaction. The candid, honest feedback we receive allows us to equally reevaluate our victories and any areas of improvement.
The Denver IT market is finally getting its dues. Back in February, Information Week and Dice partnered up to release their list of the hottest cities for IT professionals and Denver was in the top 10. That’s no surprise to people in Colorado.
According to Dice, the average annual IT salary in Colorado’s capital is $94,940, which is eighth highest in the country. But where is the Denver IT job market expected to go from here? Continue reading
On June 17, 2015, EdgeLink, a boutique IT staffing and recruiting firm, was named by the Portland Business Journal as one of the 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies. EdgeLink is headquartered in Portland and has a branch office in Denver, Colorado.
The Portland Business Journal’s recognition event took place on Wednesday the 17th at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Portland. Nearly 900 people were in attendance at the “Wild West” themed event which featured a bucking bronco and music from local musicians, The Earnest Lovers.
If you’ve tried to hire an IT professional in the past six months, you may have noticed it more challenging than before. Maybe you found the right person but they accepted another position before you could extend an offer. Or it could be that they started your job but left half way through the contract for another, “better” position. Two market trends have been the largest contributors to this occurrence:
1.) The IT job market continues to steadily grow, having expanded 31% in the last 15 years.
2.) The unemployment rate in IT is 2.3%.
The increase in technology jobs in the market along with a low number of IT professionals looking for work has made it harder to find IT talent today. Additionally, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation found that 48.3% of college students that initially enrolled in STEM programs are changing their minds and pursing non-STEM related fields.
