Getting the Edge on Carolyn
First job:
My first job was at the Mocha Tree (think Starbucks and a deli combined). This was way before specialty coffee drinks were in vogue and I was a “barista” before anyone knew what that was…only we just called it "wait staff" back then. The funny thing is I don’t even like coffee…people would ask my favorite blend, and I would answer, “The most popular blend is…” The other interesting thing is we had what we called "Cling-ons." They were the people that literally hung on the gate to the coffee shop for their caffeine fix waiting for us to open the shop.
Favorite quote:
"You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough." - Mae West
Favorite thing to do outside of work:
Enjoy nature…go for a hike, sketch the amazing world we live in, or sit on my balcony to view Mt. Hood while catching up on life with family and friends.
Things your mother would approve of:
Wearing clothes that are ironed. In my family, you iron everything (except underwear and towels) – even your work-out t-shirt should be ironed. You need to leave the house looking put-together and not like you just rolled out of bed in the clothes you slept in. Doesn’t every family have at least one quirk unique to that family? This is one is ours.
Favorite food:
There is this amazing salad at Kincaid’s Restaurant in Portland. It is called the “Signature Seafood Louie.” It has grilled salmon, Dungeness crab and bay shrimp. Make it even better; order it with tartar sauce – not Thousand Island.
Most desired vacation destination:
Outer Space – I would love to see the “big blue marble” hanging in space.
What is your favorite color:
Green. The place I have been to with the most “green” is Olympic National Park – every shade of green you can imagine. Ireland and New Zealand are on my travel list since they have lots of lush green spots.
